Array

The image below show the image multiplied a number of times in a patter with set distance spacing’s apart. This was done by using arrays to simply copy the image a required number of times with incrementing X, Y and Z vales.

bool

The image below shows the use of Booleans to cut out a piece of a cube. In this example I have cut out the letter S from a cube. This was done by first drawing the cube and then the S. The text S then would need to be extruded to the right size in order to extract from the cube. Then using the Boolean option I subtracted object B from A. This then leaves the S cut out of the cube.

Loft

Below is my attempt at making a coat hanger using lofting. As the picture shows the 2d line drawing is the pathway for the coat hanger and the circle is the shape used to make the coat hanger. I started by drawing the simple 2d objects using the line tool and the circle shape. Then the loft tool was used to combine the two shapes together.
I started by drawing half of the glass in Illustrator. Then the drawing was imported to 3ds max. Then under the hierarchy tab I edited the pivot point. This was because the pivot point by default was in the centre of the drawing, but the pivot point needs to be on the left hand side to create a glass using the lathe tool.
Then I used the lathe tool to turn the drawing into a 3d shape that resembles a glass. Then under parameters I had to select the flip normal option. This was because by default the shape was inside out. Then finally I selected the patch option to remove any dark patches on the glass.
This is my drawing of my glass in Adobe Illustrator.
This is how the glass looked finished.

3D Modelling and Animation

The assignment seems interesting and challenging. There are a number of useful skills I can learn from this module. I have never used 3Ds Max before and I look forward to learning the 3D animation skills working towards the assignment.
